Hello! I would like to welcome you to our Art classroom. In recent years, school curricula in the United States has shifted heavily toward the common core subjects of reading and math, but what about the arts?
Although many might consider art in schools a luxury, however, simple and creative activities are some of the building blocks of child development. Art helps students learn gross and fine motor skills, language skills, decision making, visual learning, inventiveness, and cultural awareness. Art is also an opportunity for children who do not otherwise excel in school to have a subject where they can shine. Involvement in the arts has been shown to increase academic performance in all content areas, not only in art. These benefits provide the basis of why art education is essential in our schools.
